Exploring the Neckar by boat

From Stuttgart, the Neckar River flows north, curving around Ludwigsburg on its way to join the Rhine. We think that “our” stretch of the river is particularly beautiful, with views that change according to the season and even the time of day.

To see what we mean, board a boat! Take one of the regular, scheduled ferry services, a short cruise or a themed cruise, perhaps for brunch or a wine-tasting. Highlights along the way include valleys, where terraced vineyards with ancient dry stone walls cover steep slopes. Between Mundelsheim and Hessigheim, look up to the towering cliffs of the Felsengärten, a favorite challenge for rock climbers. A fun and fascinating lesson in old-school technology is watching the ship move through the many locks. In Ludwigsburg-Hoheneck, Zugwiesen and Marbach, the river banks around the landing stages are dedicated to plants, bugs and animals. That is all part of the eco-friendly philosophy of our region!

Ludwigsburg is on the Neckar, one of Germany’s prettiest rivers. An unexpected pleasure for many visitors is taking a tour by canoe, kayak or SUP (Stand Up Paddle Board). The scenery along the way includes steep vineyards and medieval villages.
