Flanking the palace on three sides, the majestic Ludwigsburg Palace Gardens (Blühendes Barock) are worth a visit in their own right. Compare and contrast two different styles: formal French and naturalistic English. But there is much more within its 75 acres (30 ha).
Ludwigsburg's spectacular palace gardens
Trees tower above lush lawns; water features include lakes and streams; flowers bloom, scenting the air from spring through autumn. Flamingos and storks live in the aviary; grapes grow in the vineyard; the ruins of a fortress are romantic – but fake! Youngsters love the Fairytale Garden, dedicated to familiar characters, such as Rapunzel and Little Red Riding Hood. Annual events include the international street music festival and grand musical firework displays.
