Add lights and soaring angels, sparkling Christmas trees and the mouth-watering smell of fresh gingerbread and roasting chestnuts. More than 150 individually-decorated stalls are laden with locally-made crafts and toys, food and drink. And, of course, there is music, from carol singers and choirs to quartets. The festive heart of the city

During Advent, the heart of Ludwigsburg is like a living Christmas card. Candles and lights twinkle in the dark. Everyone comes to meet up with friends and family. ‘Tis the season to be jolly, chatting over a mug of mulled wine and munching on, perhaps, roast duck and cheese fondue. As for Christmas shopping, that couldn’t be easier. Most of what is on the stalls is handmade, from glass Christmas tree decorations and carved wooden toys to crèche figures, traditional Christmas cookies and chocolates.

And there is plenty for children to do! As well as the merry-go-round, afternoons bring live shows, from puppet theater to magic tricks and knock-about clowning. In the evenings, the wide variety of seasonal music ranges from brass bands to children’s choirs. And the perfect end to a perfect evening is hot chocolate! No wonder children of all ages love the Christmas market!
